GLOSSARY

INTEREST

Payment received for an investment, generally expressed as an annual percentage. It can be understood in two senses:

  1. Nominal interest: characteristic of securities with an explicit yield. This is equivalent to a coupon.
  2. Effective interest: that which equates capital invested with the updated value of all the payments which will have been received from this investment in the future. This is, therefore, the best measure of the yield of a security at the time at which it is acquired.
